During the week one of my good friends at work lost their little Jack Russell due to a tiger snake entering their yard. These people have lived there for 5 years and this was the first time a snake was seen. It seems the little dog went to attack the snake (sucessfully killing it) however the snake managed to sneak a bite on the back of the dog. I encourage all owners to be watchful of snakes and other creepy crawlies during this time.
SOME HANDY TIPS FOR KEEPING PETS IN AUTUMN WEATHER
While reading the local paper today I came across an article on keeping your pets during our current season. As the weather changes it is important we adjust the way we care for our family companions to ensure not only their health but their safety is catered for.
- SNAKES are preparing to hibernate for the Winter and in search of food to sustain them throughout the cold times ahead. As a result there is an increased risk of being bitten. Make sure you are keeping your eyes open when out and about with your dog remembering that snakes are making their way into our yards and neighbourhood where we least expect them.
- RATS & MICE will come (or try to) inside and move under the house or in the shed/garage to keep warm. It is a good idea to try and keep areas around the house/garage clear and if possible remove possible areas where they may like to snuggle up. ie: under wood, behind a pile of bricks etc...
- POISIONS to control rodents are always at risk of being eaten by your pet so make sure baits (if used) are kept out of reach from all pets. If you suspect one has eaten something call a vet immediately.
- OUTDOOR PETS will be starting to feel the cold approach. It is important that you provide a small amount of extra food so they can generate more warmth and body heat to ward off the pesky cold. Make sure their housing is waterproof and kept away from the prevailing wind. It is important their bedding is off the ground to prevent the cold coming up through the ground.
- WEATHER can range from sunny and warm to torrential storm and hail. If your dog is uncomfortable during storm weather and there is a risk of it escaping one day/night, ensure it is in an enclosed area to keep it safe. There is nothing worse than coming home or waking up to find one of your best friends missing from their yard.
Finally, please ensure your dog is wearing an ID collar just in case the unthinkable happens.

At our last Directors meeting it was decided to recommence the building stage of the flood recovery. Over the next few weeks members will see work being carried out both within and outside the Clubrooms. We remind members to be extra careful when attending the Club if there are workers onsite. There may be times when the grounds are closed and members will need to be understanding during this time.
Along with the rebuilding, the Directors have approved the removal of the storage container on the training grounds and this will be completed within the next two weeks. We are also searching for irrigation companies who can assist with finalising the bore and installing a new sprinkler system - if any member has a contact please email Ross via the contacts page.

Members PLEASE NOTE
It is extremely important members ensure they abide by the Rules and Regulations of the Club as per the Condition of Membership. This includes showing good sportsmanship at all times to your fellow members and not acting in any way that could bring the Club into disrepute or cause damage to the Club's name. The Directors will be investigating any claim that members have been acting in bad faith. Each year the Driectors are voted in by the members to act in the best interests of the Club and its members. If you do not agree with something that has been done, please write to the Club with your concerns rather than attack the Club to outside people and attempt to cause problems with local authorities. In 2012 the Club would like to focus its attention on rebuilding the assets and facilities for the benefit of the members.

Our builders have attended the Clubrooms to discuss the repair work with Directors. Before any work can start, the Club has asked for additional items to be covered under the Insurance policies & to clarify other items. We have asked that the elctricity reinstatement for the grounds be our number one priority and we hope this will be rectified as soon as they can. The Club's Directors are also in discussions on how to alter the existing layout of the Club to enable greater storage facilities and access to space. Some of these alterations will be covered under Insurance, others the Club will need to cover.

WORK HAS BEGUN!
Today the Council began sealing off the drain adjacent to the Kennel block and Clubrooms. This will prevent the water from back flowing from the Freeway into our drains. Along Soden Rd, work is being carried out to re-dig the drain and new pipes continue to be installed. Work is also being carried out adjacent to the telephone tower and will allow for further drainage away from Soden Rd.
This will be a lengthy process and members are advised to take care when driving along Soden Rd if work is being carried out. Please ensure you drive at a safe speed following all road signs if present.

FIRST DAY BACK - 07.08.2011
WOW! What a great day...
Our first day back training at our home grounds and it was a great success. Members cramed in the carpark and dogs were tail wagging their way around the Club, they too glad to be home. As all members present saw, there are no doors, no walls, nothing.
BUT... we moved on and classes were held as per normal, albeit they resembled the beach with sand filling in lots of low spots however it didn't matter.
Although we are back, there is so much more work that needs to be done. The Directors will be meeting with the engineers this week to reassess the structure of the building and we ask that you keep away from the end of the Clubroom that is cracked and as a safety precaution please do not cross the tape fencing people away.
As the situation progresses you will slowly see some work taking place however our major focus is on two areas - 1. preventing another event like this again and 2. repairing the grounds for members training. As these two areas are completed, the works on the structures and replacement of trees etc will take place. This cannot happen in 2-3 months and although it may seem there has not been much happening, I can assure you behind the scenes there has been hundreds of hours put into the situation.
Don't forget our AGM at KCC Park on 23rd AUGUST. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show your support and come along to hear about how this has affected our Club financially as well as catch up with some members. There will also be a presentation of photos giving you a much broader insight to the damage caused. The night starts at 7.30pm so make sure you arrive just before to grab a seat!

WEDNESDAY DAY TRAINING
The Club will begin DAY training on WEDNESDAYS for those members who cannot attend on Sunday mornings. This new training session may also continue once Wednesday night training resumes if there is sufficient demand.
Currently the class structure will be casual in that we have not arranged specific times for each level/class. The decision on class times will be decided once we know how many people are going to attend on a regular basis. If you are interested in attending during the day on Wednesdays, please come allow so the Instructors can determine what classes are needed.
Our FIRST session will be held as follows:
DATE: Wednesday 10th AUGUST
TIME: 11am to 2pm
COST: Free on the 10th then $3.00 per class
Remember it is the wettest part of the year so don't forget your gumboots or wet weather shoes.

We're going back home...
Last night the Directors voted to return back to Soden Rd for training. At this stage there will be no facilities other than the toilets and some portable gas stoves for heating water for tea and coffee. It is Winter so we ask that although the ground is fairly dry and solid it will be a good idea to wear gum boots or similar. Bernie is busy filling lower areas with sand so we ask that you keep your dogs away and not allow them to dig it all up creating more work for the Club.
Please support the Club by attending training and pass the message onto others that we are going back home.
Our first training session back home will be on SUNDAY 7TH AUGUST 2011
Training times as per normal

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
23rd August 2011
KCC PARK, SKYE
7.30pm START
The AGM is fast approaching and we need 13 Directors to continue the running of our Club. Nominations are now open and a form can found here for you to fill in and return to the Club. Please note nominations need to be completed properly including membership numbers of the nominator, seconder and nominee.
Often we hear members commenting on how the Club is run, this is your chance to have a greater input. Directors need to be available to attend the Club on a regular basis and readily assist in the running of the Club. Directors need to be attend a monthly meeting at the Clubrooms and take on roles in order to maintain successful practice within the Club.
11.07.2011
Builders have finished their quotes and the Insurance has selected one to complete the works for the interior of the Clubrooms. The works will begin after the Insurance finalises details for quotes on floor coverings, blinds and water pumps. The electricity will be reinstated as they complete the works. We are hoping that we will be able to have input to the restructure and design of cabinets etc...
At this stage the Directors aim to return to Soden Rd at the end of July - a newsbrief will be sent to all members and advertised on the site when dates are confirmed.
